The Washington Monument prominently displayed in Eakins
Oval, was dedicated in 1897. By 1997 it had become evident
that the statue was badly in need of structural repair.
The large horse and rider casting was not anchored properly,
the base was deteriorating and a strange substance was
leaching out of the side of the fountain. Under the direction
of the Philadelphia Art Commission consultant, Ms. Margo
Berg, MPG executed the approved structural stabilization
project in time for the 100th anniversary of the monument.
