Johnson and Hardwick Halls are two coed dormitories
built on the Temple University main campus in the 1960s.
Johnson Hall is significant as the first use of structural
steel frame construction with concrete floors and masonry
curtain walls erected in the Philadelphia area. By 1993,
the exterior façade of these steel and stone buildings
had begun to fail. ADF Engineering designed and MPG executed
the project to stabilize the façade of these two
high-rise buildings. MPG accommodated all the needs of
the University, completing this high profile project
on time (in just 40 days) to accommodate incoming students.
The stabilization project included: installing custom
anchorages; coring the cast stone, reinforcing concrete
and structural steel beams and restoring the cast stone
where needed. |
